My name isn't quite Fred Charles, but for the purposes of this bio, you can call me Fred Charles.

I’ve been writing for most of my life. I learned the art of storytelling by reading, watching movies, and dungeon mastering tabletop RPGs. I didn’t take writing seriously until I was in my 30s. I enjoy writing stories that both combine multiple genres and that defy convention. While I deeply love science fiction, horror, fantasy, dark comedy, and satire, I find combining these genres to be fun and challenging, which puts my work into the experimental category along such as at House of Leaves and Cloud Atlas. I released a chapbook of connected short stories called Funny Plastic Flowers. You can buy a copy of this handmade book here!

I’m influenced by the works of David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick, Robert Eggers, Douglas Adams, and Cormac McCarthy.

My novel, Broken Sentences, is nearing completion and will release on February 3rd, 2026! Broken Sentences is a novel of existential dread told through five interviewing stories that combine elements of horror, science-fiction, fantasy, and (believe or not), modern-day corporate office satire! I will document my journey to publication right here, so stick around if you’re interested in my road to publication!

Besides writing, I am the co-editor at Loud Coffee Press, a literary magazine with a coffee and music theme. Also, I am the sole member of the experimental progressive rock band Moebius Dick. I released my first record, Loomings, in 2023. You can listen to it on most streaming services!
